Getting the most out of Oxford (the city)

Postby Will on Sun Jul 25, 2010 1:37 pm

The touristy attractions at Oxford are fun for a little while but I have found that the best way to enjoy Oxford is to take the path less traveled. I personally have tried to take every little street that cuts in and around the city. Don't be detered by the lack of lighting or people, there are very interesting things to find. Many streets are paved with cobblestones and are enclosed with old walls and gardens. Many of the colleges are very nice on the inside too, Corpus Christi and Kebble college comes to mind. The exam building is certaintly unique and hidden in a seemingly modest square. In general, if you dress nicely and walk with purpose, no one bothers you with the formality of whether or not you are "suppose" to be there. The path along the river is nice too, just keep in mind the river itself is a little cold, even this time of year.

I agree. I think that if you go around through all of the winding roads of Oxford you will get a lot more out of it and have a much more exciting time than if you just stay "on the surface".

Hey Will. I agree with you. I must say that I wouldnt have seen most of oxford without you, cause you're one curious person.Walking down the empty streets really give you a sense of what oxford is really like, without all the hustle and bustle of the main town.

I agree with Will . I believe a city can only be observed by taking your own path . I especially like the little creparies around the place :D AND was I the only one who gorged on the delicious chocolate cake served as desert yesterday ?
I wish the cook would provide it with every meal :D :D

I agree about wandering through the alleys and streets. The amature photographers should really heed the advice on this particular thread! Walking around the quieter parts of town and the lesser traveled neighborhoods and streets definitely yeild some awesome pictures!
